Textile Initiative is an artistic research platform and event series, organised and curated by artists, Bronwen Jones and Dasha Golova, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

We aim to expand on the potential of textile-related practices by interweaving them with wider societal topics such as ecology, ethnography, traditions, and personal experiences. We invite different artists and practitioners to collaboratively host events/workshops and welcome the public to engage with textile crafts while sharing knowledge, stories, skills, and time. We embrace textile as a metaphor for weaving, breaking, and repairing social fabric.

Our events take place in different locations across Amsterdam. The first series in 2024 expanded on the medium of textile while weaving in other topics relating to ecology, tradition, and technology. The 2025 series centred around the topics of mending and healing, and encouraged holistic ways of seeing/approaching our surroundings.

The 2026 programme is focused on reimagining seasonal celebrations and ways of marking time, by proposing new traditions through social gatherings that connect us to cyclical processes. The next events will take place in July 2026.
