What do you mean, a poetic revolutionary? – Ola Korbańska

Saturday 23rd October 2026
Location: KB National Library, The Hague

How to formulate ideas in a poetic, clear or perhaps radical way? During this workshop we explored Ola Korbańska’s practice of banner making. We dove into the subject of text in art and public spaces and considered textiles as a soft medium for manifesting our objections and desires. “What do you mean, a poetic revolutionary?” asks Audre Lorde in her text "The Uses of the Erotic." Through feminist texts and writing exercises, we composed our own slogans and shared our experiences, frustrations, positivity and rage, before deciding on a collective slogan. We worked as a team to prepare a large collective canvas, cut strips of fabric, shaped them into a typeface, positioned and pinned them into place on our banner, and finally machine-sewed the letters into place and hung our collective work.

The banner is now on display in the KB Atelier in KB Library.

The KB, National Library of the Netherlands is an archive of words. But words do not only live on paper. They are also chanted, placed on banners, engraved in metal and wood, woven into fabric, whispered and passed on.

In this new programme series, developed in collaboration with KB National Library, we explore the library as a living place: a place where knowledge is not only preserved, but also created. Each programme brings together makers, participants and the KB collection.
