The Gossib Club ~ Collective Quilting – Sanne Freijdag, Anya Minervina
Sunday 2nd November 2025
Location: Lapland
The Gossib Club was a collective quilting workshop exploring care, motherhood, and The Gossip – the historic circle of women who gathered around birthing mothers to offer care, wisdom, and support.
In the workshop we learned how to assemble a patchwork panel, while holding space for conversation, reflection, and gentle making, guided by artist and birth educator, Sanne Freijdag, and artist and doula, Anya Minervina.
Together we discussed what forms of community and care sustain us – as mothers, as parents, as friends, as grandparents, as neighbours – and how we can reclaim the knowledge and practices around community and care for mothers and children that have been lost to time.
This workshop was the first in a series by Sanne Freijdag. In later workshops the patchwork panels will be assembled into one collective quilt, which will be donated to keep a mother and her baby warm in her lying-in period. In this project, Sanne, together with participants, aims to explore what roles we play in community care to create support for mothers and carers today. What does it mean to care? What kind of care do we long for? What knowledge, stories, and practices have been lost through time?
